How to make your own wooden fridge magnets

 

 

Fridge magnets are used either as holiday souvenirs or decorative items. And how about making your own original magnet? Colored wooden with carved outline.

 

At the beginning is the graphic design. So we need a picture that we draw on a computer and print on paper. We cut out the outline of the figure from the paper, but leave a two-millimeter white border on it.

 

 

 

 

We place the paper figure on the magnetic foil, draw the outline and cut it out. The outline of the foil should be a little smaller than the outline of the figure so that the magnet can be easily picked up with your fingers. We can buy or recycle the magnetic foil from an old magnet.

 

 

 

We then place the paper figure on a wooden board and draw the outline.

 

 

 

We roughly cut the outline from a wooden board.

 

 

 

Glue the paper figure to the wood and let it dry. Then we apply the glue to the surface of the paper. At the beginning, the glue is white, but after drying it will be translucent. This creates a glossy protective layer against paint abrasion.

 

 

 

If the top layer of glue is also dry, we grind the details with a thin file and round the edges.

 

 

 

Glue the magnetic foil to the back of the wood, preferably with a second glue or epoxy. Please note that the magnetic foil is only magnetic on one side, so we must glue it the other way around when gluing.

 

 

 

Finished, handmade magnet.
